What I Tweet About and Why

If you follow me (talestold) on Twitter, you won't learn when I last trimmed my toenails, what I (or my cat, Scout) had for breakfast, lunch and dinner (unless I'm On The Road), or much else of a "personal" nature. (Okay, so I did "tweet" about my car's battery going dead on December 16th, but at least that was literally a tale I told from the road using my iPhone). Here's what I do "tweet" about and why:

To me, Twitter is a great "headline" writing tool. I use it to pass on my travel blog posts to my Followers on Twitter and my Facebook Friends. My travel-writing mentor, Linda Watanabe McFerrin, once told me I would have made a good newspaper editor, so I also act as a "travel story editor", "tweeting" about travel-related news items I find on other media and blogging Web sites. And sometimes, I "retweet" travel "tweets" posted on Twitter by other travel writers and editors. I scan the news every morning while I'm finishing my cup of tea, and then since "tweeting" and blogging is my "cup of tea", I post all of the news items that in my editorial opinion are fit to follow.

Are Twitter, Facebook, and blogging mere fads, likely to being pushed out of the spotlight by the next "latest and greatest" technology-based "Flavor of The Month"? Not likely in my lifetime, so in the meantime, Scout and I "tweet" you a Happy Holiday Season and a Prosperous New Year.
