Summer in Sitka

Sarah Palin put Alaska on the political map of the United States.  William Seward put the state on the geographic map of the country when he bought it from the Russians.  And the Summer Music Festival, Bald Eagles, and stunning scenery have put Sitka on the 49th state’s map of prime tourist destinations.

Here are just of few of the things Sitka offers the summer traveler:

  • A world-class Summer Music Festival held here each June.
  • A chance to see the prime site of 19th century Russian occupation of North America and where the “Seward’s Folly” transfer of Alaska to the United States took place.  More buildings from the Russian era remain here than anywhere else in the U.S.
  • The Alaska Raptor Center:  A great place to see Bald Eagles “up close and personal.”
