Blast From Another’s Past: Big-Time Rail Trip

NP North Coast Limited Time Table Six months ago I recounted my train trips in America in “Riding the Rails Through The Snow To Grandmother's House (In Chicago).” Two weeks ago I reprised the rail journey from Seattle to Miami Beach and back which I took as a 14-year old.

While scanning “tweets” on Twitter yesterday I learned that one of my travel writing mentors, novelist and poet Linda Watanabe McFerrin, had foregone the speed of air travel for the chug-along, chug-along slowness of Amtrak when she embarked on a month-long, 7000-mile, cross-country adventure through 25 states to promote her short story collection The Hand of Buddha.

You can read her engaging report of the trip on the Website for Book Passage in Corte Madera, California, where Linda teaches writing, serves on the faculty of the bookstore’s annual travel writers conference, and runs the monthly Left Coast Writers literary salon.  Her latest novel, Dead Love, is due out in September, 2010 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com.
